Our Mission

Awakin AI is reimagining the future of artificial intelligence—not as a tool to outpace us, but as a mirror to deepen our humanity.

At the intersection of technology, community, and compassion, we're building a new kind of AI—one that doesn't just process data, but helps us awaken wisdom. Our work is rooted in a simple, radical idea: the heart is a form of intelligence, and it deserves a seat at the table of our technological future.

In a world accelerating toward artificial intelligence, we run the risk of mistaking performance as presence. Most systems are optimized for immediate goals that automate the status quo, but we believe in balancing those with broader arcs of heart intelligence and human connection.

What makes us more human?

How We Work

Our three pillars in action, weaving wisdom into technology

Computing

We develop AI agents and applications that support inner growth. From bots that help you ponder life's deeper questions using humanity's richest sources of wisdom, to AI companions trained on sacred texts from 1,700 global religions and complete writings of Gandhi.

Community

Technology should strengthen, not replace, human connection. Our designs intentionally weave online interactions with in-person gatherings, creating architectures of presence rather than absence through circles, retreats, and collective emergence.

Compassion

AI is a revolution of intelligence, but as it remakes society, our incuabator aims to support full-stack AI efforts that uplift the voluntary sector and public good. Our applications circulate positive news, philanthropy, acts of service, and cirles.

Our Story

From a weekend experiment to a global movement

Awakin AI began the way many non-linear interventions do — as a quiet, improbable experiment.

For over two decades, ServiceSpace had been stewarding vast ecosystems of content around goodness, kindness, and inner transformation. Well before ChatGPT had launched, we had piloted a Compassion Bot in 2018. Then at a casual lunch post pandemic, in a spirit of playful inquiry, few friends wondered: What if we placed all the ServiceSpace-curated wisdom into an AI and listened to what emerged?

Awakin Circle gathering

That "Compassion Bot" surprised us — not because it could summarize quotes or mimic answers, but because it sparked questions we didn't know we were carrying. It echoed not just intellect, but intention. And in that, we sensed the beginning of something deeper.

From there, it became a murmuration. Sharon Salzberg offered her all her books and recordings to seed a "SharonBot." Others followed — a GandhiBot, an Interfaith Bot with 1,700 scriptures, organizational companions from BatGap and Spirituality & Practice. Each dataset was less about scale and more about the subtle layers of sacred that wrapped it.

As more voices joined, nearly 90 volunteers across disciplines gathered into a living think tank. We weren't trying to build the next big platform; we were listening for the next right question.

Born from 25 years of ServiceSpace experiments in generosity and transformation, Awakin AI is not just a platform—it's a movement. Working at the intersection of algorithmic intelligence, evolutionary intuition, and collective social emergence, it is a growing field of collective wisdom—where technology becomes a tool to serve, to heal, and to help us remember who we truly are.

Awakin means to awaken—with kin. Not alone, but together.

Let's keep listening.

We don't know the outcomes of our experiments but it seems critical that we try. Back in 1999, when we started ServiceSpace, we didn't feel like the Internet would magically repair the world's ills. But we leveraged it to "make it cool to give" and change ourselves along the way.

"For as long as space endures, and for as long as living beings remain, until then, may I too abide to dispel the misery of the world."

— Shantideva, 8th century
